The LDC-3908 8-Channel Laser Diode Controller and LDC-3916 16-Channel Laser Diode Controller both have the same great features. In fact, modules are interchangeable between the two instruments. Model LDC-3916 provides up to 16 channels of laser diode current source and temperature control in a space-saving, 3U-high instrument. The smaller size and lighter weight of the LDC-3908 make it an ideal instrument for smaller channel count applications such as R&D or production test of EDFAs and Raman amplifiers. Both instruments have handles on the front panel and flip-up feet on the bottom to facilitate bench-top use, while flanges allow easy installation into standard 19 inch instrument racks.
A variety of smart controller, current source, and TEC modules are available. These include controller modules with 500 mA, 1 A, or 1.5 A of laser current source with 9 W of TEC control; dual laser current source modules with two isolated currents of up to 1 A; single 3 A current source modules; single 3 A TEC modules; and dual TEC modules. Resistive heater control adapters are available for temperature controllers.
Each module is powered by an independent, isolated power supply designed to deliver unparalleled stability and flexibility. High compliance voltage specifications allow long cable runs to drive pump lasers. This design brings even greater levels of laser diode protection through an adjustable voltage limit feature. Demanding laser control and testing requirements are met by a new processor coupled with a fast GPIB/IEEE-488.2 interface, which comes standard on each mainframe.
Each smart module is powered by its own on-board processor, which simplifies future module additions and performance upgrades. Communications and instrument operations are controlled by a separate mainframe processor, paired with an IEEE-488.2 compliant GPIB chipset.
