The AP6020 Chromatic Dispersion Test Set is designed for measurement of chromatic dispersion in single-mode optical fibers. It provides chromatic dispersion details of installed fiber links with distances exceeding 25km. The operating principle is based on the phase-shift method, conforming with IEC 60793-1-42 and ITU-T G.650.
The test set consists of two modules: - The optical transmitter module AP6020A houses six measuring laser diodes plus a reference LD for generating optical signals with operating wavelengths ranging from 1510nm to 1610nm. The reference signal is transmitted through a seperate fiber for comparison purposes per ITU-IEC standards. - The optical receiver module AP6020B collects and processes the optical signals received from fiber under test.
The data acquisition, processing and control of the AP6020 is done by an external Windows based computer which is connected to the optical receiver module. The software calculates the optical fiber chromatic dispersion parameters: the chromatic dispersion coefficient at every wavelength within the measured wavelength range; the zero dispersion wavelength and the chromatic dispersion slope.
