Product Overview

     The Optical Fibre Fault Locator is an innovative device for spatially resolving and characterizing breaks and reflective faults in optical fibres. Like a standard OTDR it is based on analysing backscatter but it uses cw laser sources and allows for very high dynamic detection ranges. The demands on test signal and on detection complexity are low, leading to a fraction of OTDR costs without limiting the fields of typical OTDR-applications.

     Current versions of the Optical Fibre Fault Locator are optimized for characterizing fibre links of METRO network size with typical fibre lengths up to 150 km. These devices are able to locate reflective faults of all kinds like breaks, cracks, poor connections and faulty splices at meter resolution. The resolution is not limited by the measurement span.

     Due to its low costs the fault locator can be integrated permanently for on-line network monitoring at an appropriate freely selectable ITU channel.
