NP2000 EDFA comes in two types, one designed for single channel applications such as CATV, and the other is optimized for multi-channel DWDM applications.
For good noise performance, 980nm pump is used in the input stage and for high power applications 1480nm pumps are used in the subsequent stages. DWDM EDFA is available up to 20dBm output power from single pump and up to 23dBm output power from dual pump configuration. Single-channel EDFAs are available up to 33dBm with basic compact gain block with two pumps.
Basic gain blocks come without optional control electronics for the pumps. External control electronics are required to bias the pumps, to stabilize temperature of pumps and to bias input/output monitor photodiodes. Each gain block can contain up to 2 pumps and are accessed via a 26-pin through-hole connector. MSA (Multi Source Agreement) compatible gain blocks (90mm x 70mm footprint) with and without control electronics are available up to output powers of 18 dBm.
